Dr. Peter Joseph Zisa was a featured artist on February 23 and 24th Guitar Festival at Vanguard University, located in Santa Ana California. The Vanguard Guitar Festival was organized by Michael Nigro, the university’s classical guitar director. Dozens of High School programs participated in the Festival. Opened festival performances Friday evening at Needham Hall. In addition to performing notable solo-classical-guitar pieces, Zisa performed three major chamber works with virtuoso flutist Cindy Ellis: Mozart’s Flute Quartet K.285, Maximo Diego Pujol’s Suite Buenos Aires, and Gary Schocker’s modern work Travel Dreams. PZ conducted a workshop for high-school teachers of guitar Friday afternoon. The workshop presented new innovative teaching methodology covered in PJZ’s recently published book (Learning the Guitar for Music Therapists and Educators). On Saturday, adjudicated the Saturday guitar performance event and conducted masterclass. The festival concluded with a outdoor guitar orchestra concert comprised of 150 high schools guitar students from attending local high schools.
